Disappointments Lead to Happiness Essay Example For Students

Disillusionments Lead to Happiness Essay Things get awful before they can show signs of improvement. I can say I’m not by any means the only one who has ever experienced a failure or something that has gotten you through disgrace. Nothing in this life is great and it will never be. You’ve got the chance to proceed onward and consistently realize better things will come your direction. I’m the kind of individual to consistently remain quiet about my feelings and act like there is literally nothing incorrectly. It’s not an awful thing but rather in some cases it’s great to discuss your issues with somebody and let go. Probably the greatest dread is confiding in individuals. The explanation is that I’ve been let down approach to commonly and it is extremely hard to confide in anybody now daily. I can genuinely say that the reason for the entirety of this was my last relationship. A relationship ought to be only acceptable. Obviously you’ll have terrible occasions from time to time however you figure out how to function it through and improve it. My desire for a relationship is keeping each other upbeat. Regard, trust, trustworthiness and love are what prop a relationship up. I haven’t been in a great deal of connections, in light of the fact that I’ve as a rule been in a drawn out relationship. Everything began at age 17, my senior year, I met now my ex. As an ordinary relationship, everything began so peachy and it appeared as though it was at last good. Little contentions, however they wouldn’t stage us. Appeared bliss didn’t last since I discovered he had been cheating. I was about regard and I realized how to give up, so I cut off the association. He, obviously, went on and did whatever him might feeling like doing while I proceeded with my life finish secondary school. By late spring, he returned needing another opportunity. He said he’d change since he needed to demonstrate the affection we had was justified, despite all the trouble. I had pondered it for some time until I chose why not, possibly time separated could make us somewhat more grounded and acknowledge what we had. It had just been a year that we knew one another, so reuniting was entirely simple. That additional opportunity was most likely the best we at any point had. We genuinely went through each and every day together, and learning new things while becoming acclimated to one another. I realized I had begun to look all starry eyed at him in the wake of all that we had experienced. As time passed, it appeared as though the past was returning once more. That’s the greatest issue a relationship can have, not having the option to relinquish the past. It’ll cut you down and it will destroy your relationship. We chose to head out in our own direction, however realizing our adoration would consistently be alive. For two straight years our relationship resembled an exciting ride, high points and low points, on and offs. We would be together for two months at that point separate for a quarter of a year. Despite the fact that we were separated, we generally had correspondence among us and that was one thing that didn’t assist us with proceeding onward. By the third year we at long last chose we must be together. I met the entirety of his family and he met mine. Everything appeared to be going perfectly. I saw my future with him. Months passed and it was all the while going great, however it didn’t last. This is the place everything went downhill for me. I got a call from him crying, revealing to me he discovered he had a child. He was in stun as was I. I just couldn’t react to that. While we were here and there, he had additionally been with different young ladies. It was adequate in light of the fact that we weren’t together yet to me it wasn’t on the grounds that we generally realized we adored one another and we generally returned to each other. It was insolent to me since I never did a solitary thing to him. As you most likely are aware in this little town each one runs their mouth and by the following day, everybody thought about it. .u41296f56c9bbb1bde853dea187f2730e , .u41296f56c9bbb1bde853dea187f2730e .postImageUrl , .u41296f56c9bbb1bde853dea187f2730e .focused content zone { min-tallness: 80px; position: relative; } .u41296f56c9bbb1bde853dea187f2730e , .u41296f56c9bbb1bde853dea187f2730e:hover , .u41296f56c9bbb1bde853dea187f2730e:visited , .u41296f56c9bbb1bde853dea187f2730e:active { border:0!important; } .u41296f56c9bbb1bde853dea187f2730e .clearfix:after { content: ; show: table; clear: both; } .u41296f56c9bbb1bde853dea187f2730e { show: square; progress: foundation shading 250ms; webkit-change: foundation shading 250ms; width: 100%; haziness: 1; change: murkiness 250ms; webkit-change: darkness 250ms; foundation shading: #95A5A6; } .u41296f56c9bbb1bde853dea187f2730e:active , .u41296f56c9bbb1bde853dea187f2730e:hover { obscurity: 1; progress: mistiness 250ms; webkit-change: haziness 250ms; foundation shading: #2C3E50; } .u41296f56c9bbb1bde853dea187f2730e .focused content region { width: 100%; position: relative; } .u41296f56c9bbb1bde853dea187f2730e .ctaText { outskirt base: 0 strong #fff; shading: #2980B9; text dimension: 16px; textual style weight: intense; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; content adornment: underline; } .u41296f56c9bbb1bde853dea187f2730e .postTitle { shading: #FFFFFF; text dimension: 16px; textual style weight: 600; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; width: 100%; } .u41296f56c9bbb1bde853dea187f2730e .ctaButton { foundation shading: #7F8C8D!important; shading: #2980B9; fringe: none; fringe span: 3px; box-shadow: none; text dimension: 14px; textual style weight: striking; line-stature: 26px; moz-outskirt sweep: 3px; content adjust: focus; content design: none; content shadow: none; width: 80px; min-tallness: 80px; foundation: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/modules/intelly-related-posts/resources/pictures/straightforward arrow.png)no-rehash; position: supreme; right: 0; top: 0; } .u41296f56c9bbb1bde853dea187f2730e:hover .ctaButton { foundation shading: #34495E!important; } .u41296f56c9b bb1bde853dea187f2730e .focused content { show: table; tallness: 80px; cushioning left: 18px; top: 0; } .u41296f56c9bbb1bde853dea187f2730e-content { show: table-cell; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; cushioning right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-adjust: center; width: 100%; } .u41296f56c9bbb1bde853dea187f2730e:after { content: ; show: square; clear: both; } READ: My Last Day in Haiti EssayHearing everybody talk about it made meextremely upset and individuals discussing me and feeling frustrated about me was more terrible. Lamentably, as time went on, he changed into a totally unique individual. He removed himself from me and he wouldn’t even observe his kid. He began heading out in his own direction, going out celebrating and not restoring my calls or messages. That time around, I can genuinely say I was the most vulnerable individual on earth. I would beseech him to remain with me yet he didn’t care. He would call at whatever point he felt like it and like the stupid young lady I was I was consistently there to him hear out and to take him back. Each time we would quit talking, I generally had in my psyche that we would get back in light of the fact that in the past we generally would. Letter From Birmingham Jail History Assignment Paper - 825 Words

Letter From Birmingham Jail History Assignment Paper (Essay Sample) Content: LETTER FROM BIRMINGHAM JAILNameUniversity affiliationWhat concept was Dr. King trying to explain to the American people and the hundreds of civil rights activists who were also in Birmingham in 1963? Does Dr. King show commitment to a cause greater than himself? Explain. Martin Luther king junior wrote this letter while in jail in Birmingham. This letter is a response to his fellow clergymen who criticized him for being in Birmingham. The clergymen argued that what martin Luther had engaged in was untimely and unwise. In his response, Martin tells them his main purpose while he was in Birmingham was to respond to issues of injustices. In his letter, he points out that the Negros were highly segregated in Birmingham and other American states. There was no justice for black people living in America. The blacks were denied access to some social amenities which were a reserve for the white people. Sharing motels, schools with the white was illegal (Dinar, 1963). They were living in abject poverty because they could not access equal opportunities with their white counterparts. There were signs everywhere indicating colored or white meaning that the blacks were not permitted in such areas. Churches were not left behind. They too participated in this ordeal of racial discrimination. The prevailing circumstance at that time indicates that Negros were a social misfit in Birmingham. They were unwanted not because they were less human but because their color was black. The judgment leveled against them because of the color was in itself unlawful and immoral. Discriminating human beings on the basis of color is not right and should be condemned in the best way possible.Martin Luther King committed himself to a goal greater than himself but he was very optimistic that liberation was on the way. He made a decision to fight for the rights of his Negro brothers and sister so that the yolks of injustice could be broken (Dinar, 1963). He knew that this was the bes t thing to do at that particular time. Martin Luther king argued that waiting for a proper time to do this was delaying justice for his people. He committed himself to a nonviolent direct action. These were demonstrations organized to compel those in authority at that time to heed the call for justice and engage in negotiations. This was the best option martin had to try and liberate his people from injustice and bad laws.Outraged by some of the laws that humiliated the Negros, Martin Luther decided to advocate for a civil rights movement to champion for the freedom of Negros. Luther felt that some laws can be obeyed but other laws which are inhuman should not be obeyed. He refused to be passive but instead, he voiced his concerns (Dinar, 1963). He was disappointed with the church leaders who did not support him and the movement. However, Martin Luther king believed strongly that he will liberate his people. Martin Luther found something worth dying for and that is why he was in ord er to push for change regardless of the consequences of his action. Fighting for a just society is the best thing one can advocate for in the prevailing circumstances of injustice. However difficult the task is, it is vital to realize that freedom calls for sacrifice. Are Kings points applicable to modern American society? Explain. Should we as citizens be concerned with issues and matters that do not directly affect us as individuals? If we are going to strive for equality, although it may seem insurmountable, what is the value of working together for a common goal? Explain your position. In your community, what causes do you value and why?Martin Luther kings concerns about discrimination are still applicable in the contemporary American society. Injustice was the main thing that Martin Luther dealt with and it is still a problem in the Present America. The same challenges Negros were facing in America during the days of Martin; they are still threatening the African Americans and H ispanic living in America today. According to Pew research center, America is still battling with issues of discrimination. The minority groups in America, for instance, the African Americans and the Hispanic are on the receiving end when it comes to racial discrimination. In some areas in America, there are no equal opportunities for blacks and whites. The whites are preferred over the blacks when it comes to things like mortgage or jobs. A national survey done on 29 May 2016 by Pew research center revealed that 88% of blacks felt that there was the need for America to continue making changes to its laws for them to have equal rights with Whites (Pew research center, 2017). This is a clear indication that issues raised by Martin Luther are still applicable in the present American society. As citizens, it is necessary to be concern about the rights of other people. Things that do not affect us directly yet they affect fellow human beings are worth fighting. Martin Luther believed tha t injustice done to anybody is injustice done to everybody. Injustice somewhere is injustice everywhere. This implies that people should be more concerned about issues affecting other people. Whatever that is affecting other people my in one way or the other affect us. Fighting on behalf of your fellow citi...

The Family Adjustment And Adaptation Response Model

To date, an abundance of research has provided evidence that stressful situations and circumstances in a family are associated with youth behavior problems (Brakefield, Wilson, Donenberg, 2012; Conger et al., 2002; Elkington, Bauermeister, Zimmerman, 2011; Hammack, Richards, Luo, Edlynn, Roy, 2004; Nebbitt, Tirmazi, Lombe, Cryer-Coupet, French, 2014). This association is not only empirically supported, but theoretically supported through the Family Adjustment and Adaptation Response model, which postulates that family demands (i.e. potential stressors placed upon one or more family members) interact with family capabilities (i.e. perceived physical and psychological resources; coping strategies) (Patterson, 1988, 2002). These two†¦show more content†¦These studies have focused only on single or dual stressors, such as risky sexual behavior and substance use by caregivers, substance use and maternal incarceration, or maternal incarceration by itself (Brakefield et al., 20 12; Nebbitt et al., 2014; Ruiz Kopak, 2014). However, research has indicated that the co-occurrence of stressors is more greatly intertwined than has been shown thus far in the literature on parental stress and youth behavior problems. Specifically, potential stressors including mental health problems, a history of detention, and adult substance use, which have been shown to deleteriously impact levels of familial stress, have a high likelihood of co-occurrence (Mukku, Benson, Alam, Richie, Bailey, 2012). Importantly, a recently study analyzing parental stress via a combination of caregiver substance use, mental health problems, and adult incarceration showed that higher parental stress was associated with greater rates of youth delinquency and substance use among African American youth (Voisin et al., 2016). While this an important finding, more research is needed to better illuminate the pathways that mediate direct relationship between parental distress and youth delinquency an d substance use, which is the primary aim of the current study. The language of performing arts Essay Example For Students

The language of performing arts Essay Performance studies is about exploring how dance, drama and music interlink through the use of common language, as well as acknowledging that each art form has many elements that are unique to it. The language of performing arts is an essential range of vocabulary employed by writers, performers and directors to effectively convey the various stages and processes, in which all aspects of the theatre must participate, in order to produce a successful presentation. I have always thought that performance is about showing situation/emotions that others can only dream about, when acting you are living/creating the life, if only for a moment of infinite number of possibilities. The Idea of creating a performance for an audience fires my imagination. Performance is a variety of visual arts and other disciplines, within these performances you are able to build on existing practice and preoccupations to undertake a creative research project, which explores any aspect of the visual language of performance (Spolin .V). Being creative and using practical skills of theatre all make a performance work. During a performance we can see how all three types of performing arts can emerge together. The process can be triggered off by a stimulus. Each piece was given a specific stimulas; for the drama piece, this stimulas was 16th century Dante picture. Within our group we began to write down our initial ideas, by exploring the various meanings and interpretations behind the picture. Therefore we discuss how the picture made us as individuals feel and how it may relate to any past experiences we may have had, that would hopefully add to the performance. We all felt that we wished to experiment with different styles and each devise an individual monologue to include. Which will not only portray the emotions we as a group felt about the picture, but what emotions we would like to invoke in the audience too. The varity of feelings the picture envoked allowed us to internalise the character, this technique, widley used by constaintin Stanislavsky in his Staislavsky styem or method acting. Characterisation is extremly important across all the performing arts, by allowing an actor to convey their emotions, and dancer creating physical expression through their movements and a musicain to toy with the audieces imaginations. The second art form was music; the stimulus for this section was Circus. The aim of the group was to create a piece that represented and expressed different acts entering the circus. As in the drama section, we discussed our immediate ideas on the stimulus in order to begin our initial composing that would contribute to our final composition. So we began to consider the elements of the circus: clowns, elephants, lions, ringmaster etc. We then discussed how each element could be brought to life and developed through various layers of sound. The key is the performance process, which is a common language that crosses the arts and consists of improvisation, rehearsing and performing as a way of devising performance material. Improvisation is to compose or create something without preparation. Improvisation is spontaneous, a time to discover and play with new ideas. This is known as a curcial process, where no writer is specifically involved in the work. (Alison Oddey). Rehearsal enables the refining of ideas and aims and the production of a perfected performance. Performance is where you bring the whole process together. For our drama piece, a number of motifs were created, such as a mythical/magical thriller or a Blair witch project type performance, which would have enabled us to investigate more ideas; Motifs can add interest to a simple phrase and give alternative meaning so that repetition does not bore the audience. However the group decided upon the idea of a murder, who leads his victims to the woods in the picture to kill them and their spirits are still there unable to flea haunting his mind. The theme we built around the initial stimulus for our drama piece was loss. The loss of the murderers mental stability and control over his actions, the victims loss of identity and life and the innocent familys loss of a loved one. 1 member of our group played the victims whose story we follow through the performance, another member the murder and the other 3 member of our group multi-rolled as the girls, mum and father, a newsreader and victims themselves. .u3598046d39e68fd4bd51b25a46e3178f , .u3598046d39e68fd4bd51b25a46e3178f .postImageUrl , .u3598046d39e68fd4bd51b25a46e3178f .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u3598046d39e68fd4bd51b25a46e3178f , .u3598046d39e68fd4bd51b25a46e3178f:hover , .u3598046d39e68fd4bd51b25a46e3178f:visited , .u3598046d39e68fd4bd51b25a46e3178f:active { border:0!important; } .u3598046d39e68fd4bd51b25a46e3178f .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u3598046d39e68fd4bd51b25a46e3178f { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u3598046d39e68fd4bd51b25a46e3178f:active , .u3598046d39e68fd4bd51b25a46e3178f:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u3598046d39e68fd4bd51b25a46e3178f .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u3598046d39e68fd4bd51b25a46e3178f .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u3598046d39e68fd4bd51b25a46e3178f .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u3598046d39e68fd4bd51b25a46e3178f .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u3598046d39e68fd4bd51b25a46e3178f:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u3598046d39e68fd4bd51b25a46e3178f .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u3598046d39e68fd4bd51b25a46e3178f .u3598046d39e68fd4bd51b25a46e3178f-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u3598046d39e68fd4bd51b25a46e3178f:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Music and how it affects the brain EssayViola Spolin once noted that Improvisation is the openness of contact with the environment and with each other. We began to separate into smaller groups, we were to experiment and devise with various instruments, objects from the environment and even each others bodies and voices to express the nature of the acts. For example when considering the lions, the group decided to use a pipe and a human voice to illustrate the sound of the lions roar as they enter. Also to rattle chains and use a whip to show they are dangerous as they have to be controlled. To go behind this the group decided that a low pitched, relatively fast tempo melod y on the piano should be used to add the idea of fear and chaos. To portray the act of the tight rope walker, we used bells; the high pitch represents the height at which the tight rope walker had to balance and by pausing every few seconds to engage the audience in the tight rope walkers facial expressions, this created tension and suspense.

The Catcher In The Rye Essay Paper Example For Students

The Catcher In The Rye Essay Paper Holdens JourneyAs we pass through this life it is our duty to discover our destiny. Some of us go to college and become Doctors, Lawyers, Architects. Others of us cherish the finer things in life and find our places on farms and Dude Ranches. The point is, every living creature has a place in this world and we are ultimately steered in its direction. Holden Caulfields voyage began when his brother died of Leukemia. Holden was emotionally destroyed by the loss of not only his brother, but his best friend also. The fact that his parents couldnt accept Holdens pain and that they even sent him to a shrink for it, proved to Holden that his parents didnt care as much as they were supposed to. As Holden grew up, he found himself flunking out of school after school, never being able to stay in one place. This calamity was caused by either his overwhelmingly powerful hatred for people or because there was a conflict of interest between him and the school itself, about who they were trying to make him. Holden was also starting to view people as who they really were. Many of us in this world accept people at face value and never really take the time to see through the infinite masks that make up a personality, or a first impression. Holden however, took the time to understand who a person really was, and how fake they really were being. This changed his life enormously, as it would anybodys, because as soon as he could understand how much of a phony a person was being and who they truly were, he didnt have to feel inferior, scared or cast out by that person. I think these views of life could have actually been caused by his brothers death. I think that when his brother died, his parents might have become phonies themselves. You must understand that when a parent loses one of their own creations they feel as if they have lost a part of themselves and cannot strive to go on. I think many parents find it easier to conceal their feelings inside of themselves, thus becoming wh at Holden could view as a phony. He didnt understand why his parents had to bottle it all up (which he thinks is wrong) and why he was almost punished for expressing his feelings freely (which he feels is the right thing to do). I believe that this is what led him to hate phonies and people in general. We will write a custom essay on The Catcher In The Rye Paper specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now As Holden reaches the eighteenth year of his life, he flunks out of yet another school. This time it is Pency prep, an all boys school with a top of the line PR. No matter how educationally advanced people think Pency is, Holden knows its no better than any other school. He hates the school and he hates most of the people in it, and when he leaves, he knows twenty years from now he wont regret it. Holden becomes a traveler among the streets; he searches for a place in the world and is depressed when he cannot find one. But his place slowly comes to him one day on a lowly street corner. Holden Caulfield sees a very young boy walking along the curb singing The Catcher in the Rye, and as the sad song flows into his ears, his destiny becomes apparent. Holden sees himself spending his life in a gigantic rye field full of thousands of kids, he watches over those children and if they start to fall off the cliff hidden at the edge of the rye, he would catch them and save them. The Catcher in the Rye is a complex and intriguing analogy for life itself, the rye being life and the kids are, well, kids. They arent to the stage yet where they have to worry about things and they have an unbelievable future ahead of them. But if they lost someone or something that they built their world around, or if something happened that changed their life dramatically, then they would fall off the cliff hidden within the rye. Once they fell off that cliff, they would quit trying to make their future the best possible and ultimately end up in the same position as Holden. Thats why he must save them. Holden thinks that all you need to have to become successful is a responsibility, not a nice car or an office job, just a life and a responsibility. Some people think that this is crazy, but I have to agree with Holden. I would much rather live my life in a small cottage tucked away in the forest, without the burden of worrying about what the worlds doing. College, a job, the things that seem t o make life pleasurable but only destroy you in the end wouldnt matter to me. It is a life that people stuck in high school will never be able to live. Holdens escape gave him the opportunity to live this life, but his destiny caught up with him, he must fulfill his responsibility first. .u4d45459b9212d1592467d78bab94fc2b , .u4d45459b9212d1592467d78bab94fc2b .postImageUrl , .u4d45459b9212d1592467d78bab94fc2b .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u4d45459b9212d1592467d78bab94fc2b , .u4d45459b9212d1592467d78bab94fc2b:hover , .u4d45459b9212d1592467d78bab94fc2b:visited , .u4d45459b9212d1592467d78bab94fc2b:active { border:0!important; } .u4d45459b9212d1592467d78bab94fc2b .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u4d45459b9212d1592467d78bab94fc2b { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u4d45459b9212d1592467d78bab94fc2b:active , .u4d45459b9212d1592467d78bab94fc2b:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u4d45459b9212d1592467d78bab94fc2b .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u4d45459b9212d1592467d78bab94fc2b .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u4d45459b9212d1592467d78bab94fc2b .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u4d45459b9212d1592467d78bab94fc2b .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u4d45459b9212d1592467d78bab94fc2b:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u4d45459b9212d1592467d78bab94fc2b .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u4d45459b9212d1592467d78bab94fc2b .u4d45459b9212d1592467d78bab94fc2b-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u4d45459b9212d1592467d78bab94fc2b:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Recycling EssayHolden carries out his responsibility to the world when he visits his sister Phoebe. She finds out he is leaving and because she loves him so much (the way Holden loved his brother) she wants to come with him. When he refuses to let her come she decides that she will quit school and leave home, she decides to quit trying. Holden discovers that his sister is going over the cliff hidden in the rye, like Holden did when his brother died. It dawns on him that he must save his sister before she becomes someone like him, someone that has quit trying. Holden takes her to the carousel and convinces her that he does love her and that she will never lose him, he gives her what his brother never gave him, the assurance of everlasting love. The power of that promise kept Phoebe from going over that cliff in the rye. If someone sees Holden as one that never accomplished anything, then they are terribly wrong. Holdens ability to see through the shrouds and barriers that people build around themselves, and the concept of life being about responsibility and not about houses, money or popularity; are accomplishments that only the best of people can make. Holden Caulfields life should never be shunned from society like it has been in the past, instead it should be taught to teenagers in hopes that they will make the correct decisions about life, and that they will find their responsibility also.

Colonist unity on eve of revolution essays

Colonist unity on eve of revolution essays To an extant the colonists developed a sense of their identity and unity as Americans by the eve of the Revolution. This unity and identity by no means came instantaneously, but came as a slow trickle and even on the eve of the revolution was still not complete. This sense of unity and identity came through change over time and helped shape the American spirit on the eve of the Revolution. At first the colonists thought of themselves to be British settlers. But as time progressed, and many colonists in the colonies were born in America, and began to intermingle with other cultures, they began to develop an identity that they were their won people. This point is shown well in Hector St. John Crevecoeur, Letters from an American Farmer. The colonist that now lived in America had less and les ties ethnically to the British and became moreover products of the melting pot affect, a person created from the many cultures from all over tie globe. An example of the identity shared by the colonists as one people is shown by the manifest of the Contributors of Donations for the Relief of Boston, 1774-1775. The colonists came together on as Americans to help other Americans who were in need when the British government closed Bostons ports in 1773, as a result of the Boston tea party. The colonist of the states that donated items or money saw that fellow colonists were in need and did not perceive them as settlers in another As time progressed and the colonist began to become threaten by the British taking away their rights, they joined together as colonist supporting the same cause and also willing to die for the same cause. As shown in the Declaration for the Causes of Taking Up Arms, issued by the Continental Congress on July 6,1775, the colonists show that they are wiling to stand up against their enemies for the rights they as Americans have. Behavioral Perspective of Psychology

When it comes to psychology or psychologists, most people imagine a person lying on a couch and talking to someone about their problems. Maybe even rats, and monkeys running around being studied by humans. However, psychology has changed dramatically since the beginning of its time. Constantly expanding on new approaches, from structural, functional, psychoanalytic, to the most modern seven major psychology perspectives, one of which I am going to touch on in the contrast of this paper. In the early 1900’s John B. Watson introduced the behavioral approach into the world of psychology. He is now known as the founder of behaviorism. Watson was influenced by the Russian physiologist Ivan Pavlov. Pavlov believed that, behavior results from within one’s environment. Well known behaviorist B. F. Skinner believed that we should use the behavioral approach to shape human behavior. Those who believed in the behavioral approach, viewed people and animals behavior and mental processes as being a direct impact or affect of their environment. They specifically believed, that we are a result of what we have learned from our environment. Behaviorism, mainly focuses on, how stimuli ( environment ) affects observable responses. Behaviorism is unique because, behaviorists believe in scientific methodology. They also believe that only observable behavior should be studied, being that it could be objectively measured. In the psychoanalytic approach, it is believed that in an unconscious state, there are thoughts, memories, and desires that people lack awareness of, yet these thoughts, memories, and desires have a great impact on one’s behavior. Sigmund Freud ( founder of the psychoanalytic perspective ) believed that events in our childhood can have a direct impact on our behavior as adults. When it comes to childhood, this could mean your neighborhood, ( environment ), family, peers, teachers, and so on. That’s why it is very important to watch what is said and done in the presence of young, and impressionable children. Thus in turn gives the two perspectives a common ground. In my opinion, I chose to elaborate on the behavioral perspective because, I, from my own personal experiences in my own life, and the observation of others and their life experiences, have found that, people tend to hold on to things that have happened to them in their past. Thus in turn, causes one to become very depressed, angry, afraid, and so on. I too, was once, one of those individuals, who held on to every trauma or shall I say bad experience that I have been faced with in my life. Through soul searching, and desperate desire of change in my life and way of thinking, began to de-root my issues from within. Noticing that holding on to my pain and fears was more traumatizing than just letting go. I then began facing my fears, and forgiving my pain. By doing so, I’ve noticed that I have become more of a happier person, able to communicate better, and more open minded to trusting again. I like this approach a little better than the others because to me, this approach is more of a realistic approach. I believe this approach is particularly of importance, because my belief is, the way to recovery is first admitting, addressing, and finding a solution to overcoming the obstacle, or obstacles holding you back. Critiquing this perspective, I would have to say that the strengths are, and I don’t mean to sound repetitive, however digging down to the root of a situation, and resolving the issues affiliated with the situation, is a great way to recover from the pain, memories, and various other obstacles that may be holding you back. In closing, though I am a huge fan of the behavioral approach, do not believe it would be a good idea for psychologists to focus only on the behavioral perspective. I believe there will be patients who do not, cannot, and will not want to talk about their underlying problems, fears, emotions, and so on. Another reason I do not think it would be a good idea for psychologists to focus only on the behavioral perspective is because all animals, human and no-human are unique in their own way. Not one animal, human or non-human, are exactly the same. The biopsychosocial model in psychology and medicine is essentially the idea that illness arises not just from a biological pathogen (as in the traditional biomedical model). However from a complex interaction of biological processes, such as genetics, brain functions, neurotransmitters, and evolution. Psychological factors, such as learning, thinking, emotion, personality, and motivation. And social forces, such as, family, culture, ethnicity, social class or social location, and politics. It suits many psychiatric illnesses particularly well. The interrelated influences interact with all of the seven major perspectives in modern day psychology. As far as conducting research, the biopsychosocial perspective may allow one to generate a more complex hypothesis and therefore have more complex findings at the end of the study. With that being said, there will be different problems, which need different approaches, to find different diagnosis, in order to give proper treatments. So again, though I deeply like the behavioral approach for my own personal reasons, believe that the biopsychosocial model approach, is the best approach to use in modern day psychology. My reasoning for this is because, the biopsychosocial approach, deals with more content. Thus for enabling better individual diagnosis’ and treatments for patients.

Culture - Research Paper Example Black Americans are facing some issues related to affirmative action, racial profiling and federal controversies in the modern world. These issues have affected the development of the entire American society. Racial profiling is being practiced in the American society drastically. Important federal agencies such as Immigration and Customs Department have stated that they rely on racial discrimination. The main reason due to which these agencies practice racial discrimination is the safety and security of country. Racial profiling arises because all the immigrants are not treated equally in the immigration and the customs department. It has been observed that people belonging from different religion and country are generally detained and thoroughly checked while other citizens of America are minutely checked. Discrimination based on racial profiling is growing day by day and the black Americans are the most common victims of such problems (Wilkins & Williams, 2008). Whenever an African-American citizen of the United States enters the border from a foreign country their luggage are thoroughly checked and they are detained for long hours in the airports. Some of the citizens even miss their plane due to intense checking procedures. Racial profiling is practiced on a large scale in the American society. Some of the African-Americans also believe that racial profiling is the 21st century version of slavery and inequality. According to statistical data, it has been observed that around 12-13 percent of the African-American populations are drug users however 38 percent of populations get arrested for drug-related crimes. Based on the police reports it has also been recorded that the minority group of America get arrested quite often because they mostly belong to the lower group of the American society. This shows that the law-making system is not efficient and the

Evaluating Performance DB - Essay Example The formula to calculate return of equity is net income divided by stockholders equity. An investor evaluating return on equity is looking for a highest return on equity possible. In order to determine if the return on equity of a company or project is good an analyst must compare the company’s return on equity with the industry standard. A good source to find information about the financial metric industry standard is Dun & Bradstreet database. Utilizing return of equity to evaluate oversee projects has its advantages and disadvantages. Return on equity is good performance metric because it is very straight forward as far as being an indicator that can be used to compare between different projects. It is a metric that can be easily calculated by looking at a company’s financial statements. This financial ratio allows an investor to determine the overall efficiency of the company or project being evaluated. Some of the drawbacks associated with utilizing return of equity to evaluate an oversee project is that the formula to calculate the ratio relies on the validity of the financial information provided to the investor. In certain foreign nations corruption is big part of corporate business, thus tricks such as write downs can distort the numbers. A factor that can lead to misinterpretation of data when evaluating the return on equity metric in the international scene is inflation. Internal rate of return is a financial metric that provides insight regarding if a project is worth investing on or not. The metric helps an evaluator of a project determine the overall quality and efficiency of the investment. In essence the metric provides a person with information about the expected growth of a project which is valuable information for company such as Acme which wants to determine whether a foreign investment is worthwhile. There are pro and cons associated with the application or utilization of IRR in an international setting. One of the key advantages of

Pro Legalization of Marijuana in the United States Essay -- essays res

With all of the complex issues facing the nation today, it seems as if the legalization of marijuana is being set on the back burner of legislation. There are so many opinions, sides, and overall arguments for and against it that many vote seeking politicians and policy makers have put up a strong resistance to this issue. In this paper I will illustrate the reasons why I think marijuana should indeed be legalized and also the arguments from people who disagree and feel that it should stay an illegal drug. Marijuana has been around for centuries. It comes from the species of plant Cannabis Sativa, and is used for things other that its renowned drug form, such as rope, clothing, medicines, and oils. Other common names for it include weed, pot, grass, reefer, and bud. The drug was actually not outlawed in the United States until the passage of the Marijuana Tax Act in 1937, which made the possession and sale of the plant illegal. A large part of the original fear and misrepresentation was due to ethnic and racial concerns of the southwestern U.S. Large immigrant populations moved into the area and introduced pot as a recreational drug, similar to the use of alcohol or tobacco. The xenophobic reaction caused the initial rejection of the drug and led to its outlaw in 1937. Since that time, government and society’s ignorance have kept the drug illegal. In a nutshell, there are many substantial reasons why the use of marijuana should be made a legal drug. Some of the reasons I will be discussing to support my argument are crime reduction, government benefits, medicinal benefits, lack of evidence to support harm, and constitutional rights. First and foremost is the issue of one’s constitutional right. Even if a drug is shown to be ha... ...here have been no recorded deaths as a result of marijuana use, unlike alcohol or tobacco, and most doctors will agree it is safer to use. Its recreational use would not stimulate more crime as some would try to argue. Marijuana being illegal essentially has no validity at all. So, because of all the positive aspects, marijuana should definitely be legalized in the U.S. Bibliography 1.
